When it comes to Boy Wonder and Sweet Girl I have worn many “mom” hats. Just as most of us moms do. Team mom, classroom mom, decorator mom, dance mom, slumber party mom, and my favorite “cool mom”. The list goes on and on. Much to my choosing mind you, and I loved every single minute of it. I loved it so much that when Boy Wonder went off to college on a pole-vaulting scholarship, I volunteered to be the “college team mom”. I had visions of myself in a KU Jayhawk team uniform walking beside Boy Wonder and his teammates as we entered the stadium. The crowds would cheer as we crossed the field…
But for some reason it only took Boy Wonder a hot second to veto my idea. What was that all about? Didn’t he know that I’m the “cool mom”? And didn’t he know that without some sort of “mom” job (which I’m really good at) I would be forced to find another hobby? Like maybe poking fun at his dad by way of blogging and sharing it with the world to read.
Cowboy if you’re reading this like you tell me you do, this whole blog thing was your son’s fault. All of it.
Anyhoo, I was having a conversation with Boy Wonder that I wanted to share with ya-
ME: I heard about a piece of property that you might want to look at before it goes on the market. It has acreage and a house.
BOY WONDER: Sounds good. Text me the info and I’ll call them.
Later that day-
BOY WONDER: I called the property owner. It’s not quite what we’re looking for right now.
ME: I know Dad and I have mentioned it before, you and Red could build out here on 4G. There is PLENTY of room. It would be so much fun! We can eat at each others houses. Watch Netflix together and do all sorts of things.
Crickets churping…
BOY WONDER: Umm, we would need a really big gate with a big lock if that ever happens.
ME: Oh okay (insert sad face emoji here).
Later that night…
ME: (talking to Cowboy) I spoke with your son earlier today and he said that if they ever moved out here it would require a big gate with a big lock. I know he didn’t mean it but why do you think he said that? I think he has forgotten how much of a “cool” mom that I am. And I’m really fun to be around.
COWBOY: And you’re not nosy either.
ME: I know. That’s what I told him.
COWBOY: And you certainly wouldn’t ever show up to their house un-announced.
ME: I wouldn’t. And, it’s not like I haven’t climbed big gates that have big locks on them before.
COWBOY: Exactly.
