A Cowboy and Me

by Tammy Gilbert - Story Teller & Published Author, Decorator & Aesthetician

Let’s talk beauty

July 21, 2018 by Tammy Gilbert

This is me..no makeup, no concealer and no filter.  It was a process but being consistent with my skincare routine has helped me to LOVE THE SKIN I’M IN.
Being a medspa owner and a skincare professional I’m asked beauty questions each and everyday. The one thing I’ve learned about being in the aesthetic industry is that there is a new product being launched every 6 hours. And the one thing I’ve learned about myself is that the skin I have now in my 50’s is COMPLETELY different than the skin I had when I was in my 30’s. If I could go back and talk to my 20 year old self I would tell me to STOP tanning and wear sunscreen.
I create beauty regimens for women of every ethnicity, for every skin issue and for every age. I truly believe that your skincare routine should be customized for only you. There is not a “one size fits all” when it comes to skincare products. I always try to impress upon the fact that skincare products do not have to come with an exorbitant price tag, but they do need to be quality, backed by scientific research AND customized for YOUR skin. It doesn’t matter what Aunt Sally or cousin Sue is using, your skin is not their skin.
I have been in this industry since 2002 and I have seen a lot of products come and go. Do not fall for those products that promise a “miracle” overnight. I can assure you that you did not get those crows feet around your eyes or the lines around your mouth overnight. Visit with your skincare professional and let he or she customize your perfect skincare routine.
One other tip: If you are a once a month facial kind of gal (which is awesome), your skincare professional has only 12 days out of the year (12 opportunities) to correct your skin issues, the other 353 days are up to you. So choose your products wisely and remember quality.
Here are some extra skincare tips:
  1. Schedule 2 minutes in the a.m. and 2 minutes in the p.m. to have a “one on one” with your skin (cleanse, correct, inspect & moisturize).
  2. Choose the correct products for YOUR skin. Your skin is a living organ, it changes daily. Sometimes it can be dehydrated and sometimes not. Your professional treatment as well as your products should be re-evaluated every 30 days to make sure it’s working the best for your skin.
  3. Consult with a licensed professional and have them create a customized skincare regimen for you (products and treatments).
I can’t wait to share more beauty secrets with you!

Cowboy was in the living room nestled in Lolita’s arms (his recliner) watching the rodeo so I decided it was the perfect time to walk past him and stand in front of the tv.

COWBOY: (Looking at me with a not so pleasant face) What is that smell?…
