A Cowboy and Me

Tan Is The New Black

June 24, 2018 by Tammy Gilbert

So let me just begin this blog post by saying:

I love my Cowboy…I really really do BUT creativity is definitely not his strong point. Especially when it comes to his wardrobe.

From the waist down, with his boots and wranglers (ahhh those wranglers) he scores a 10 EVERY single time.

But let’s chat a minute about his choice of attire for his upper half.  If you ask him to describe his perfect shirt, it would have these attributes:  2 pockets, a collar, light starch, long sleeves with buttons but he prefers snaps (no surprise there) and the color would be tan. Yep, plain as day TAN.  And, he would say that tan is the new black. So if you ever look in Cowboy’s closet, he would have 2 colors that stand out the most, wrangler blue (I just created that color) and tan.  On my side of the closet (which sparkles) you would see every color of the rainbow and a few in between…like cheetah print, which would be my primary color of choice❥

This is a typical conversation between the two of us when we have an event to go to:

COWBOY: How do I look?

ME:  You’re not wearing that.

COWBOY:  Why?

ME:  Because it’s a tan shirt, you wear tan EVERY day.  I bought you a new shirt and I just picked up from the cleaners.  It’s hanging on the back of the closet door.

COWBOY:  (as he is walking back to his closet to change mimicking me) I’m a grown man, I should be able to wear what I want…tan or not.

ME:  I can hear you and you sound like a 4 year old.

5 minutes later-

ME:  (Looking at him as he exits his closet) That shirt looks good on you and it’s not even tan…who would’ve thought?!  While I’m thinking about it, when Boy Wonder and Red get married next month I don’t want you complaining about what they ask you to wear.

COWBOY:  I already know what I’m wearing, Red told me yesterday.

ME:  Really? Is it a suit?  I bet you’re going to hate that! You have to promise to keep your jacket on until after the pictures.

COWBOY:  Nope, it’s wranglers and a long sleeved shirt.

ME:  What color shirt?

COWBOY: (chuckling) T A N.

ME:  Sweet Jesus! Are you kidding me?!

’til next Sunday y’all- Tammy❥

Did I ever tell you about the time I went to Lowe’s to buy paint and it leaked out of my suv all of the way home? Yep, left a paint trail all the way home. But that’s another story. Dumb salesperson who loaded it. If I ever see him again I’ll walk right up to him and poke his eyeballs out!

Back to my story-
I turned my music on and painted, danced and painted some more. Time flew by because when…

Meet Ms Charlotte, she recently celebrated her 90th bday. She has lived a life of beautiful memories. Every time I get to see her she is nothing short of glamorous. Her hair, clothes and makeup are impeccable. And her perfume reminds of what a glamorous socialite would have worn back in the 50’s.

When she visited me today I asked her what I could help her with.

She said that she would never EVER leave her house without her makeup being just right and with her tremors, it takes her a hot minute to get it “just perfect”.

So I got busy designing her brows and selecting the perfect color for her lower eyeliner all while chatting with her about life. What a treat!!

Once finished she hugged me and said she knew she had chosen the right artist. She wanted someone that wouldn’t try to make her look younger or faddish but timeless.

And then she said she’d see me next month. I mentioned that her that we didn’t need to do a touchup on her brows OR her liner.

She says: “Oh honey, you’ve done an excellent job on those but now it’s time to do my lips”.

ME: Your lips? Are you sure?

HER: Absolutely! And no neutral colors for me. I want fuchsia! I don’t want to look boring and pale!

Fuchsia it is then!
