On one of our many trips to watch Boy Wonder compete in college, Cowboy decided that we would drive there instead of flying. Let me just say that I greatly dislike driving OR riding for more than 4 hours. I’ll “check” my cheetah print suitcase at the “check baggage” stand A.N.Y.D.A.Y! Just put me on a plane thank you very much. My thinking is that the faster I get where I’m going, the faster I can start having fun and making memories!
But here I sit…with our Sweet Girl…in a car…with Cowboy…driving TEN hours to Lawrence, Kansas to see our pole-vaulter. And this mama bear can’t wait to hug her Boy Wonder. Even if it embarrasses the heck out of him. Speaking of embarrassing our children, isn’t it the job of parents to do that exact thing? My kiddos should have realized this at an early age. I’m such a hugger. The way I see it, is that hugs are free and I have plenty to give away. Hugging my kids reminds me of Celine Dion’s song “My heart will go on”.
Where was I? Oh yes, road tripping with Cowboy and Sweet Girl-
One thing I know for sure is that we’ll need plenty of snacks for this TEN HOUR road trip. No worries, I got this! Food I can do! I packed everything from peanut butter crackers to snickers (Cowboy’s favorite) and chips. I even threw some fruit in there for good measure. Just in case we felt “healthy”.
COWBOY: (speaking to me and Sweet Girl) Are y’all loaded and ready?
SWEET GIRL: I’ve got what I need but mama is still bringing out bags.
ME: I’ll be there in a sec.
COWBOY: Good lord Tammy, what is all of this stuff?
ME: It’s food. One can never be too prepared. And I don’t do hungry.
COWBOY: They have stores and restaurants on the way there.
ME: I know, but you’ll thank me when you want a snack and don’t want to stop for it.
Two hours later-
COWBOY: (speaking to Sweet Girl) Grab me a water and some crackers please.
SWEET GIRL: Here’s your water but I can’t find the crackers.
ME: I ate them.
COWBOY: How about a snickers?
SWEET GIRL: I can’t find those either.
ME: I ate them too.
SWEET GIRL: Next time it might be easier to drop her off at the airport along the way.
COWBOY: I was just thinkin the same thing. ME: I can hear y’all.
Til’ next Sunday y’all- Tammy
