Cowboy and money go together like bees and honey. I totally just made that little rhyme up for y’all.
I didn’t know Cowboy back in his college days. It’s pretty safe to say that he wouldn’t had been interested in me AT ALL. Especially since this gal would have been 11 years old when he was a freshman at Tarleton. Gross!! I was still playing with Barbies and he was chasing girls that looked like a Barbie! No doubt they resembled Western Barbie.
Cowboy and I were having dinner with his parents one evening when they brought up Cowboy and his short stint at college. Short stint, meaning 2 years. If you ask him he’ll tell ya that he went his first year to have fun and stayed for his second to prove to his parents that he was not a total moron. He wanted to make his own money.
His mom told the story about how he would ask her to deposit money into his bank account. Not her money but HIS money. Wait, it gets better. Cowboy would instruct his mom as to where the money was hidden in his room. Apparently each time he would come home from college, he added to his stash.
This “stash” of money was usually hidden in one of his many skoal cans that he tucked away in the back of his sock drawer. Her question to him was “How are you getting money at school if you don’t have a job?” Color me curious but I was going to ask him the same question. He had already told me that from time to time people would hire him to play pool. Apparently that was one of his many talents. He would get half of the winnings. They bet on Cowboy and Cowboy would win…cha-ching everyone is happy! Now can you just imagine him playing pool…wearing his boots…and wranglers. Holy smokes! Did I ever tell y’all that when I first met Cowboy he had a closet full of boots and belts that matched? And, his clothes were color coordinated. How can one person be so perfect at everything?!
So let’s get back to Cowboy and his “stash”- Did I ever tell y’all about Cowboy and his college days in the dorms? He and his dorm mates would all gather in one of the dorm rooms to watch Green Acres? Every time I think of this story I can’t help but sing the theme song…”Green acres is the place to be”. I get images of Cowboy in overalls holding a pitchfork looking like he belongs on the set of “HeeHaw”!
So anyway, Cowboy figured out that after watching Green Acres, his buddies would be looking for food. And he also figured out that McDonald’s was just around the corner. He would go and buy everything they had left at closing time for a discount. Then, he took it back to the dorms and sold it for a profit. My Cowboy… all color coordinated, cute AND smart.
Cowboy and money goes together like bees and honey.
I’m going to keep him forever…sigh! ’til next Sunday y’all- Tammy
