I was thinking the other day about how much “stuff” people can accumulate. Whether it’s a month, a year or even a lifetime, we accumulate stuff.
We as humans collect, store and some of you (not me) even hoard. I prefer to say that I “intentionally gather” my stuff. Everything that I buy has a purpose. Purses, clothes, shoes, table settings etc, etc (and a smidge more etcetera).
Last weekend I was walking thru our house looking at all of the stuff that belongs to me and Cowboy. And, I decided it was time we took a step (or two) towards the minimalistic way of life. Why you ask? Because whether we like or not, every house needs a good cleaning out, closets and all.
Believe me when I say this because I do not take this task lightly, but it needs to be done. I know it’s hard for some of you to part with your “stuff”. But it must happen. It’s also the reason we do “spring cleaning” or “summer sorting”. Okay, I just made that last one up.
The next day I put on my “organization hat” and channeled my inner Marie Kondo.
Standing in front of Cowboy’s side of the closet I begin to skim over his stuff. Okay here we go…
Golf shirts- toss (he gave it up when our Boy Wonder began pole-vaulting all over the country).
Golf shorts- toss.
Polo shirts- toss (apparently he needs shirts with a pocket for his flip phone) sweet Jesus.
Slim fit Wranglers- toss (he prefers his jeans to look like a family has moved out of them so he refuses to wear slim fit). A totally waste of a nice derriere if you ask me.
Dress shirts- toss (he dislikes dressing up) but I decided to keep a few anyway.
Suits- same as dress shirts.
Dress shoes- same as suits.
An hour later I look at the mounds of clothes, shoes, jackets and ties. I decide that I made a pretty good dent in “minimalizing” Cowboy’s stuff.
It was time that I began on my side…
Humm… I’m looking and looking…and thinking and thinking…
Dress pants- keep.
Jeans-keep.
Blouses-keep.
Dresses-keep.
Jackets-keep.
Shoes- KEEP! KEEP! KEEP! (Especially the cheetah print ones).
Purses- Same as shoes.
Socks- toss (one pair).
I step back and look at a job well done! I feel as though progress has been made today. I pat myself on the back. Good job Tammy!
Cowboy comes home and joins me in the closet…
COWBOY: What’s going on in here? Why are my clothes in piles on the floor?
ME: I’m minimalizing our “stuff”. We don’t need all of these things.
COWBOY: (Digging through the pile) Why am I only seeing my things in these piles? Where is your stuff?
ME: (Pointing to the pair of socks) Over there. AND I was thinking that since you have more room on your side of the closet now, maybe I could use your empty space for more of my stuff?
’til next Sunday y’all- 𝔁𝓸, 𝓣𝓪𝓶𝓶𝔂 ❥
