Mother’s Day With Cowboy

May 13, 2018 by Tammy Gilbert

I was asked by a few readers who are new to my blog how Mother’s Day is with Cowboy.  This Sunday, in honor of all of you extraordinary & beautiful moms out there, I thought I would bring back one of my favorite memories with this wrangler wearing cowboy.   Here ya go-

When the kids were young, Cowboy would take them shopping for that special mother’s day gift.  Sometimes I would get perfume, jewelry, a spatula,  but my favorite gifts were the handmade ones.  As I’m sure those gifts are the most cherished for every mother.

As time goes by, the kids grow and begin to shop on their own.  But each mother’s day Cowboy would still surprise me with a gift that he was most proud of.  One year it was a weed wacker,  the next year was a vacuum cleaner and maybe  he’d throw in a lawnmower or two because apparently I’ve broken every darn lawnmower (riding or not)!   The gifts continued to come and I realized we were playing a game. A game called “practical gift giving.”  If my cowboy is anything, it’s practical!  I also realized that these gifts were more suited for him and not me.

Soo a couple of years ago Cowboy calls  me outside and shouts “Happy Mother’s Day”!  I look  around thinking this man finally got me my black convertible, no more practical gifts!  What fun I’ll have driving it to town with my sunglasses on, listening to my favorite 80’s music.  And then I see it… a bright green  John Deere tractor!

COWBOY:   “Aren’t you excited with your gift?”

ME:  “About as excited as you’ll be when you get a girl’s trip to Italy for Father’s Day!”

Here’s to all of you mothers on our special day, may your gifts be NOT so practical and brings you lots of love, memories and great stories!

’til next Sunday y’all-Tammy
