A Cowboy and Me

by Tammy Gilbert - Story Teller & Published Author, Decorator & Aesthetician

Go away

October 16, 2022 by Tammy Gilbert

As I was driving home from work one day,  I realized that every day God gives us a gift of what he created.  The sky was a perfect color of blue,  the trees were a beautiful shade of green and the clouds looked like pieces of white cotton candy that floated effortlessly thru the sky.

God presents us with some amazing backgrounds.  We just need to slow down and appreciate them from time to time.

Anyhoo, on with another story-

Cowboy had built a gate for our entrance and a while ago I had mentioned to him that we should put 4G on it or maybe a sign that reads “Welcome y’all”.   One morning as I’m leaving the house and driving out I noticed Cowboy was setting up his welding equipment to start the signage on our entrance gate.  I reminded him about my idea and I also reminded him that I usually have really good ideas and he needed to listen to me.   He chuckled and said “Umm humm”.

On my drive to work, I started thinking of how well Cowboy and I work together.  We had finished quite a few projects out here on 4G and things were moving right along.  I came up with the ideas (which are always great) and he did the work….in my world everything was perfect.

My work day ended and I called to let him know I was on my way home and that I was excited to see what he welded.  He said “you’re gonna love it”!

As I crossed the second cattle guard and drove down our dirt road I noticed Cowboy was standing in front of the gate with a big smile on his face.

ME:  (Pulling up next to him and jumping out of my car) Aww, you’re so romantic, waiting for me at our gate.

Walking towards the gate I said “let me see what you did”.  He stepped to the side to show me.

ME:  No!  Are you kidding me?!  You did not put that on our gate!

COWBOY: Yep I did.

ME: Why would you do that and where is 4G at?

COWBOY: (Pointing below the words were a small welded 4G)

Y’all! He welded the words “Go Away” ON OUR GATE!  This was NOT what I had envisioned…what was he thinking AND what are the neighbors going to think?

ME:  (Furiously letting him know how I feel) *!!*%%% Why on earth would you put that on our gate?  People are going to think we don’t want them to visit us.

COWBOY:  (Chuckling and scratching his head) That’s kind of what I was hoping.

Sweet Jesus… please give me strength because I’m about to kill me a cowboy.

’til next Sunday y’all-

Tammy

Cowboy was in the living room nestled in Lolita’s arms (his recliner) watching the rodeo so I decided it was the perfect time to walk past him and stand in front of the tv.

COWBOY: (Looking at me with a not so pleasant face) What is that smell?…
