Sweet Jesus… what is it about Cowboy that makes him act like crossing the cattleguard to go on a trip is as bad as suffering from the chicken pox?! Seriously people, am I the only wife that has to negotiate with her husband for this? Don’t get me wrong, we have a great time when we do go and Cowboy can be loads of fun. For those family members reading this, it is not personal. It’s just how he is.
The act of negotiating with him reminds me of the game show Deal or No Deal, but that’s another story.
There are times in a marriage where we let our husbands think they are in control and everything is their idea (don’t judge, wives have been doing this long before I came along). And then there are those times when we wives do not have time to play games.
ME: (speaking to Cowboy) Mom and Dad are coming into town Friday. They’ll ride with us to Dallas.
COWBOY: (Looking at me like this is the first time he’s hearing of this) What? This weekend? We have to drive all the way to Dallas?
ME: Yep, this weekend we’re driving to Dallas. I mentioned it to you last week. It’s not going to hurt you to cross that cattleguard every now and then dude. AND, I do not have time to make you think that this trip is your idea, so I’m really needing you to get on board with this.
COWBOY: Nothing good happens when we cross the cattleguard.
See what I have to deal with people?
ME: (speaking to the man above) Lord, please grant me some patience with this dude.
LORD: I have dutifully noted your tolerance of your situation and you will be heavily rewarded for putting up with him.
Umm hum, that’s what I thought.
’til next Sunday y’all- xo, Tammy
