A Cowboy and Me

by Tammy Gilbert - Story Teller & Published Author, Decorator & Aesthetician

Our “Red”

January 28, 2018 by Tammy Gilbert

Cowboy loves red hair.   He has an undeniable sweet spot for it.  He loves it almost as much as he loves me.  I came to realize his love for red hair on date #7.  Okay, I really don’t remember when I realized this.  But, simply put…he loves the color red…on hair.

Last time I looked in the mirror, my reflection came back as a blonde.  So I’m not sure what his immediate attraction to me was except maybe my winning personality.  Yes that’s probably it…I’m so personable.  Lol!  I’m about as far from a red head as you can get!  I have mountains of blonde hair.  Sometimes when I first wake up I resemble a cutip, hair going every which way EXCEPT the right way!

Cowboy leaves the house before I do.  Now that I think about it, I’m usually still in bed when he leaves, don’t judge, I’m just keeping it real for y’all.  He thinks it’s funny to whisper in my ear  “Good luck with your hair today”.  Ugh.  That’s my sign to get out of bed and try to control my mane.  I would like to say that all of my blonde hair is natural but that would be as big of a fib as my hair.  A BIG kudos to my hair stylist, Tutti, for keeping it “a la naturel”.  She is amazingly talented  and deserves every penny that I charge on Cowboy’s credit card (that he doesn’t know I have).  Lol, if you’re reading this Cowboy,  calm down,  I’m only teasin.  I’m a big girl and can pay my way.

ME:  Don’t forget, I have a hair appointment today after work.

COWBOY:  Will you come home as a red head?

ME:   I hate to disappoint ya AGAIN but this hair is staying blonde.

COWBOY:  Well.. I love you anyway.

  ME:  Umm, thanks?

I am a blonde thru and thru AND have my share of blonde moments to prove it (but that’s another story).

Little did Cowboy know that a beautiful red head would come into his life via our Boy Wonder.  And let me tell ya folks, he adores her.  For the sake of the blog, we’ll call her “Red”.  Get it? Red for red hair. Haha!

When Boy Wonder brought her this red headed beauty home to meet us Cowboy knew right then that she was “the one” for him.

ME:  So what did you think of her?

COWBOY:  That boy needs to marry her.  She’s a keeper.

One hot summer afternoon, me, Sweet Girl and Red were swimming and the subject of our Boy Wonder came up.  Sweet Girl, as always, was talking about how cute her brother was.  It’s almost as if she has forgotten the time when she wanted to trade him in for a kitten (but that’s another story).

Back to the conversation between us gals:

I mentioned how much I love his dimples and without skipping a beat Red says “I love everything about him”.  That’s when I knew.  I knew from the bottom of my mama bear heart that those two kids would be married.  (If I knew how to insert a heart here, I would).

Our red headed daughter-in-law is beautiful, smart, kind, creative….and the list goes on.  But most importantly, she is part of our family and is the best life partner that Boy Wonder could have chosen.  And if any of you know Cowboy, you also know that he is a great judge of character (he married me after all) AND he only speaks the truth.  So, we are one big happy family…I got another big-hearted daughter, Sweet Girl got the sister she always wanted and Cowboy got his red head.

‘Til next Sunday y’all- Tammy

Did I ever tell you about the time I went to Lowe’s to buy paint and it leaked out of my suv all of the way home? Yep, left a paint trail all the way home. But that’s another story. Dumb salesperson who loaded it. If I ever see him again I’ll walk right up to him and poke his eyeballs out!

Back to my story-
I turned my music on and painted, danced and painted some more. Time flew by because when…

There are times in our life that permanent cosmeti There are times in our life that permanent cosmetics makes our quality of life so much easier. Meet Ms Charlotte, she recently celebrated her 90th bday. She has lived a life of beautiful memories. Every time I get to see her she is nothing short of glamorous. Her hair, clothes and makeup are impeccable. And her perfume reminds of what a glamorous socialite would have worn back in the 50’s.

When she visited me today I asked her what I could help her with.

She said that she would never EVER leave her house without her makeup being just right and with her tremors, it takes her a hot minute to get it “just perfect”.

So I got busy designing her brows and selecting the perfect color for her lower eyeliner all while chatting with her about life. What a treat!!

Once finished she hugged me and said she knew she had chosen the right artist. She wanted someone that wouldn’t try to make her look younger or faddish but timeless.

And then she said she’d see me next month. I mentioned that her that we didn’t need to do a touchup on her brows OR her liner.

She says: “Oh honey, you’ve done an excellent job on those but now it’s time to do my lips”.

ME: Your lips? Are you sure?

HER: Absolutely! And no neutral colors for me. I want fuchsia! I don’t want to look boring and pale!

Fuchsia it is then!
