A couple of days go by when we started noticing something strange happening out on 4G.
We were now down to 11 pups instead of 12. What on earth? Cowboy and I looked everywhere for that darn puppy. We could not figure out what or who took it. Could it be a coyote? Or maybe a mountain lion? Maggie was incredibly protective of her young. I’m sure she would react just as any mama would. I know if anyone EVER tries to hurt Boy Wonder, Sweet Girl or Red I would turn ninja mama warrior on them in a flat second! It reminds me of the time I almost came to a head with another parent when our Boy Wonder was playing youth football…but that’s another Story.
There is no way Maggie would let anything harm her babies! AND, we moved her doghouse in the carport, so if there was an unwanted visitor that caused a ruckus, we would have heard it!
The mystery became more puzzling because each day Cowboy and I would come home to find one less puppy. This is not making sense. What are we missing?!
Sweet Girl, Boy Wonder and Red were all away at college. But the distance didn’t damper their excitement when we told them about Maggie giving birth to 12 “assorted” puppies. The hard part was telling them that we were now down to 9. I don’t care how old you are…that’s a little hard to swallow. Three pups vanishing into thin air. And poor Maggie was beside herself. She still had that wild, crazy look in her eyes and she kept pacing back and forth.
When there’s an issue that needs to be fixed out on 4G, my family goes into “problem solving mode”. Questions get answered, riddles get solved and issues get resolved… that’s how we roll. But this one was a toughie. None of us had an inkling as to what had happened to those sweet pups. Well, except Cowboy. I’m pretty sure he “got it” way before the rest of us on account of him being so smart and all.
COWBOY: I hate to say it but we need to take those pups from Maggie.
ME: What are you talking about? That’s a terrible idea!
Eight pups, seven pups and now we only had six puppies left of the dozen. That’s it, I’m calling the vet again!
Check back next Sunday y’all for the conclusion of Maggie & The Missing Pups- Tammy
